Notes
Doria Pamphili is the name of an old aristocratic family in Rome. A spacious public park has been made from some of their land, and it was there that I sketched this short guitar piece. One of the park’s truly beautiful attributes is an abundance of umbrella pines, immensely tall trees with no branches until the very top. They can make you feel very low to the ground, and so I wrote passages that to me feel low to the ground. Doria Pamphili was commissioned by the New Jersey Composers Guild, and was premiered by William Anderson at Drew University on October 20, 2007.
